5th graders participated in a contest for the 2020 Burns Park Run T-shirt design. Students worked individually or in groups to create an aesthetically pleasing design for the shirts. After the designs were made the four 5th grade classes chose the top 3 designs in their class to move on to be selected by the BP Run coordinators. The coordinators then chose the top 3 from the top 12 designs and those 3 designs are given to a graphic designer to use as inspiration for the t-shirt designs.
Clay Paint Palette
5th graders designed their own paint palette out of clay. First they created a stencil out of paper and then they carved out the outline and wells from a slab of clay. We will be using these paint palettes in class for an upcoming watercolor assignment!
Graffiti Walls
Students had a discussion whether they thought graffiti is a form of art and when it is appropriate to create graffiti. We looked at famous graffiti artists likes Jean-Michel Basquiat. Students then chose a word that inspires them or that they like and they created their word in a graffiti style. The 5th graders blew me away with their creativity and variety of ideas! Check them out below!
Mandalas
5th graders used their clay paint palettes to mix colors for their mandalas!
